|Description||With Starfleet assigning Task Force 37 to the Delta Quadrant to begin significant expansion and operations in the Area concern has been growing over the loss of long range probes sent out towards an unclaimed area of space. Every time a probe reaches the area it records Hirogen vessels before being destroyed. The area being both unclaimed and unexplored Starfleet believes these to be simply Hirogen ships lurking in the area not wishing to be found.|

Unclear about the extent of the Hirogen presence in this unclaimed area of space the USS Hephaistos is being sent to the area with the following objectives:
1 - As the area is unexplored by Starfleet other than the long range probe scans the USS Hephaistos is tasked with searching the region for inhabited worlds as well as source of vital minerals. Given the area is far away from both Borg and Devore space Starfleet believes that although it neighbours the Republic there may be first contact opportunities present as well as potential allies.
2 - Starfleet Command has ordered sensor platforms be constructed in strategic sectors to provide an early warning system versus Hirogen vessels. These platforms must be able to either look after themselves or be impossible to detect on sensors.
3 - The USS Hephaistos is instructed to report any information about Hirogen activities to the Iota command facility and to help ascertain if there is a viable threat to future trade and shipping in the region. Clearance is not currently given to aggressively move against Hirogen ships.
