Personality & Traits
|General Overview||Gentle giant is an apt description of this mountain of a man. He's educated, polite and eloquent, and carries himself with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
Though a kind and approachable soul, he carries within him a sense of guilt over his parents' death, which makes him prone to bouts of brooding silence where he closes off and acts more distant.
|Strengths & Weaknesses||His kindheartedness and friendly nature sometimes gets in the way of the hard decisions In the past he has been accused of being soft.
Although large and powerfully built, Odin is not a fighter and has barely passed the baseline standards for phaser markmanship and hand-to-hand combat.
He likes his beer, perhaps a bit too much.
|Ambitions||To make a name for himself, whether by becoming a celebrated Starship captain, famous metal guitarist and vocalist, or recognized Master blacksmith.|
|Hobbies & Interests||Odin is an avid fan of old earth music, specifically heavy metal, the heavier the better. He's a gifted guitarist and metal vocalist and spends much of his time practicing.
What time he doesn't spend practising he devotes to his second greatest hobby, that of smithing. He is an accomplished smith, and has adapted a holodeck program to allow him to practise this hobby in a manner realistic enough to pass.
He likes parties with loud music and much drinking.
|Personal History||Young Odin Kriggson was born on earth near the small Icelandic town of Siglufjordur, the eldest of three kids. He, like his sisters Idunn and Skadi, was homeschooled by his parents. His youth was a carefree one, where he was always taught to be kind and patient.
His parents considered the loss of knowledge one of the worst sins mankind could commit. As such, they encouraged young Odin to learn an old trade, one that was no longer practised or necessary, but that would instill in him a respect for the old ways. They also hoped that through his pursuits, he would also help ensure that the ancient trade of his choosing would, with his help, be preserved for another generation.
Odin chose smithing. He spent much of his teen years learning the basics, and eventually slowly honing his skills, eventually becoming an accomplished smith. Idunn learned tailoring, and Skadi elected to study herbalism, becoming an alternative healer.
Learning to be a smith helped instill in him an interest in mechanics and engineering of all kinds, an interest that saw him also studying how to be a mechanic. It was also during this time that he developed a passion for an old Earth style of music called 'heavy metal'.
It was in his seventeenth year that his parents died in a shuttle accident, an event he still blames himself for. His sisters maintain that nobody could have prevented the accident, but Odin blames himself for not catching the fault that lead to the craft's main power core failing in time to prevent the crash.
This family tragedy threw Odin into the proverbial deep end, and he found himself responsible for taking care of his two younger sisters, aged fifteen and thirteen at the time. He spent the next few years teaching them the lessons his parents had taught him and watched them grow into accomplished young adults.
During this time the Dominion war happened. Although it mostly passed the Kriggsons by as they lived in the middle of the forests of Northern Europe, the effects were still felt. Odin saw in the news the devastation, the fighting, and when the combined enemy forces attacked Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco, it all hit a little bit too close to home for him. Yet, he had a duty to his sisters, and so he remained in Iceland to care for them.
Only after the war had ended in a narrow victory and his sisters had moved out of their paternal home, did he enlist in the academy. He was twenty two then, four years older than most of the other students in his class. Normally this might've led to friction, but Odin's approachable and friendly demeanor combined with the hangover of the violence of the war meant that his stay at the academy was a relatively quiet one.
When it came time to choose a path and pick a major, it was an easy choice. Odin entered the officer track for engineering, and majored in Warp propulsion theory. He graduated in the 70th percentile of his class. Not top honors, but successful enough. His sisters were present at the graduation ceremony.
After graduating, the Ensign Kriggson was assigned to the USS Atago as engineering officer. There he studied diligently to try and avance his career, as well as keeping on top of his smithing and his guitar playing. He always kept himself busy, as the deaths of his parents still weighed heavily on him.
After a few years on the USS Atago Odin was transferred to the USS Holland to serve as assistant chief engineer. It was here that he became friends with the counselor onboard that ship and entered a brief but stormy relationship with the woman.
A side effect of a relationship with a counselor was that he was finally slowly coming to terms with what happened to his parents, to the point where it no longer affected his work as much. Here his friendly and approachable nature found its way to the forefront again. Although they eventually parted, they did so as friends and still maintain a friendship.
Then came the opportunity of a life time, a very prestigious promotion to chief engineer onboard the most advanced and the largest class of capital ship Starfleet operated, the Ascension class USS Hephaistos.
